FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about our RMTs and massage therapy in Ladner
Got Questions? Here are the basics.
Why should I see a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT)?
BC’s Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) are among the most educated and highly trained professionals in their field. The regulations to become an RMT in BC are the most stringent in North America[ND1]; students must complete extensive training at an accredited college and pass a comprehensive board exam.
RMTs are dedicated to treating your symptoms of pain and dysfunction, including the underlying causes.
We understood that massage therapy decreases stress and helps control pain. Perhaps less known is the effectiveness of massage therapy in treating deeper structures of the body, such as ligaments, bones and joints, fascia, blood vessels, organs, and other soft tissues. Massage therapy can provide relief for many common conditions, such as:
Migraine headaches
Whiplash
Pregnancy
Cancer
Low Back Pain
Stress Release
Tendonitis/Tendonosis
Arthritis
Osteoporosis
Fibromyalgia
Sports injuries
chronic pain
And many other common conditions related to soft tissue and joint dysfunction

Does a massage therapy treatment have to be painful?
No. Each massage treatment is unique to the individual and the patient with complete control of their pain scale. The therapist will check in periodically throughout the therapy to understand how the treatment is perceived and experienced. Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others and can feel more tender/ or painful. The patient must communicate with the therapist about their thoughts so that the therapist can adjust to meet the patient’s needs.
What is wrong with me? Why does it hurt?
To best help you, the therapist must take a complete history and assessment.
Patients: The unique qualities of each person's activities, past injury history, habits, etc., can all contribute to an issue, therefore making each patient’s complaint unique to you.
How long will it take for me to get better?
After your initial treatment, the therapist will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan. The plan will explain the number of treatments, how regularly they should occur, and how long each treatment should be.
Can I do anything at home to help myself get better?
Yes. Home care is an essential part of returning to optimal function. At the end of each treatment, the therapist will educate you on the proper stretch/strengthen/movement/postural awareness.
I have had a hard day/week/year. Can I get some help relaxing?
Yes! If you need to come in and get a massage to help you feel like you again, we are more than happy to help.
Should I continue massage as maintenance on my body?
Our bodies take a lot of abuse through work, sports, hobbies, etc. Maintenance can be an excellent tool for keeping your body healthy and pain-free. Everyone’s maintenance needs are different and depend on their lifestyle. Some people need a massage every couple of weeks, while others find that every couple of months works well for them.
